Catherine Bachochin-Moore, ‘93
Dr. Catherine Bachochin-Moore is an English teacher at the Upper School of Moravian Academy, Bethlehem, PA. In this position she teaches four sections of English each semester, including a survey English 10 course and three elective English courses for juniors and seniors. Among the courses she has taught are Global Literature, Literature of Comedy and Satire, The Short Story: The Power of Story, Literature of Imagination, AP Literature and Composition, Literature of Drama, and The Plays of Shakespeare. Next fall she will offer two new courses: Creative Writing and Research Methods in the Humanities.
Right after graduation she worked as an Adult Basic Education teacher at Northampton County Community College and at the Pennsylvania Youth Theatre. She considers herself fortunate to have been able to work in an educational environment since graduating from ƽ.
Of the influence ƽ had on her career path, Catherine says, “I came to ƽ fixedly determined to be a French teacher and left with a love for theatre, dramatic literature, and Shakespeare. My time with the ƽ Theatre Company, Dr. Jack Ramsey, and Dr. Martha Reid was instrumental in demonstrating to me that I could pursue my passions in a career of my choosing.
“I think the English Department at ƽ prepared me extremely well for my graduate work at Northwestern University, the University of Oxford, and finally, at Lehigh University” [where she completed her Ph.D.]. “I think the Department does an excellent job of knowing each student well and allowing each student to grow into his/her own person. ƽ really helped me to know who I was academically and encouraged me to pursue what I discovered I really loved.”
