Endowed Scholarship Funds
΢ÃÜÆƽâ and Theological Seminary's endowed scholarship funds are organized into the following categories based on their purpose and specific criteria:
- Need-Based: Scholarships designated for students with demonstrated financial need.
- Academic: Scholarships designated for students based on area of study and academic achievements.
- Seminary: Scholarships designated for students pursuing seminary or related theological studies.
- Geographic: Scholarships designated for students based on specific geographic regions or with ties to certain communities.
- Affinity/Specific Restrictions: Scholarships designated for students with particular backgrounds, interests, or affiliations, such as military service or first-generation status.
- Graduate: Scholarships designated for students pursuing a advanced degree across various disciplines.
Need-Based
Anne R. Enright Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to a deserving undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need and in good academic standing. Once the Fund reaches $50,000, preference will be given to an undergrad who is a resident of Bethlehem or Bethlehem Township.
Attanasio Family Annual Giving Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to a deserving undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need.
Baucus & Company Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to deserving students.
Bertie Francis Knisely ’69 Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need.
Boyer Annual Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to deserving students.
Brewer Family Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need.
Brubaker Family Foundations Endowed Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to support full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing who are experiencing housing- and/or food-insecurity without additional resources to address these fundamental needs, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
Preference will be given to Bethlehem Area School District (BASD) Superintendent’s Scholarship Recipients. If no incoming or currently enrolled BASD Superintendent’s Scholarship Recipients qualify, the income can be allocated to full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing who are experiencing housing- and/or food-insecurity without additional resources, as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
More than one student can benefit annually from the income of the Fund. If students’ needs exceed the available income, the income line can be in deficit for a pre-determined time to cover immediate needs, as determined by Finance & Administration.
If funds are available after room and board are covered, they can be used for other educational supplies and necessities.
If no students meet the criteria, available funds will be carried over to support future students or, if applicable, address a past deficit.

Chynoweth, Del Giorno & Thomforde Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide annual financial support for a deserving ΢ÃÜÆƽâ or Moravian Theological Seminary student. The fund is to honor the accomplishments of former President Christopher Thomforde, former Board of Trustees Chair Lyn Chynoweth, and former Chief of Staff Julie Del Giorno.
Class of 1957 Scholarship Endowment Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support for a deserving student with documented financial need.
Clingan Family Annual Giving Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to undergraduate students with documented financial need.
Faculty Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide merit awards to rising juniors and seniors. The number of Faculty Scholars and award amounts will be determined by the Academic Standards Committee or its successor as determined by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Scholarships will be awarded for one year and may be renewed for a second year.
Frank L. Marcon Foundation Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to deserving students.
Frank O. Jaxheimer Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship awards to between two and four deserving students each year.
Hillary Benner Annual Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to deserving students.
Historic Hotel Bethlehem Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for worthy undergraduate students who are employees or children of HHB; If no students fit this criteria then it will be awarded to a student who is a Bethlehem resident of Moravian College's choosing.
John and Virginia Dancy Dickie Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need.
Marie J. Bayne Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1984 by Edwin A. and Genevieve R. Gee ’43 in memory of Dr. Gee’s mother Marie J. Bayne. The income only of the Fund will be used to provide scholarship assistance to worthy students at the University, with awards to be based on academic and personal potential, performance, and need, as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to deserving undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need.
Muriel S. Follmer Memorial Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships for students attending ΢ÃÜÆƽâ with documented financial need. ΢ÃÜÆƽâ may elect to award the scholarship to any deserving students.
Norah Elizabeth Bruthers ’20 Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Robert Martin Herbstman Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1983 in memory of Robert Martin Herbstman ’77, the purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to worthy students at ΢ÃÜÆƽâ who have documented financial need. To further qualify, the recipient(s) should best exemplify the involvement, enthusiasm, congeniality, and concern for others that Robert demonstrated throughout his short-lived life.
Robin Elizabeth Haff Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to a deserving undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need. When the Fund reaches $50,000, preference will be given to a nursing student. If this criterion cannot be met, the scholarship should go to a student with demonstrated financial need and good academic standing.
Rocco Calvo Scholarship Fund

If and when the Fund reaches $50,000, preference will be given to a student majoring in Elementary or Special Education. If this criterion cannot be met, the scholarship should go to a student with demonstrated need and good academic records.
Sylvia Spirk Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to a deserving student with demonstrated financial need and in good academic standing. If and when the Fund reaches $50,000, preference will be given in this order:
- From a Catholic high school
- Female
- Involved in extracurricular activities
If these criteria cannot be met, the scholarship should go to a student with demonstrated need and good academic records.

Andrew & Elinor Hart Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need with preference given to a student studying business management or psychology.
Bateson Family Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to first-generation undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need and are majoring in nursing.
Betty Airstock Moore’45 Music Scholarship Fund
This Fund is to provide a four-year scholarship to the most promising Freshman enrolling in the Music Department and who intends to major in piano and/or organ. The recipient will be selected based on their performance during the audition process conducted by Music Department faculty. The income from the fund should be used to support a Music Major with a preference for students majoring in Piano and/or Organ.
Charles & Jeanette Spencer Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for an undergraduate student with financial need who is pursuing a degree in either the Department of Economics and Business or Natural Sciences. The student receiving the award must carry a minimum GPA of 3.0 and may not be a freshman.
Christine P. Dech ’87 Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for an undergraduate science major with demonstrated financial need. In addition, there is a preference for students who intend to become science educators, honoring the beloved career of Christine P. Dech ’87.
Clater Family Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to a deserving undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need and in good academic standing who would not be able to enroll without financial assistance, with a preference for undergraduate majors in the Health Sciences.

Elizabeth Jones Oplinger ’40 Scholarship Fund
Established in 1999 in memory of Elizabeth Jones Oplinger ’40, the purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to deserving students with first preference given to students interested in music as a major.
Eric S. Ruskoski ’69 Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student with a preference for an English major. If the criteria cannot be met, the scholarship should go to a student with demonstrated need and good academic records.

Genevieve Gee Scholarship Fund
Established in 1994 in honor of Ed and Plum’s 50th wedding anniversary, the purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to a female student in the area of Economics and Business with a preference given to a student who has demonstrated high achievement in the management program.
George N. & Anna J. Miller Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student at Moravian College with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a junior or senior student studying music whose area of concentration is piano, organ performance, and/or sacred music, and who intends to pursue a performance and/or church related musical career. The student must have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average to qualify for the scholarship. Should no student be identified that fully meets these criteria, the scholarship should be awarded to a student who is most closely aligned with the purpose of the Fund.

Gloria J. Miller Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student at ΢ÃÜÆƽâ with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a junior or senior student studying nursing who intends to pursue a career in nursing with, perhaps, a concentration in pediatrics, geriatrics, or Alzheimer’s patient care. The student must have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average to qualify for the scholarship. Should no student be identified that fully meets these criteria, the scholarship should be awarded to a student who is most closely aligned with the purpose of the Fund.
Harlan F. Fulmer MD & M. Eleanor Kern Fulmer Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship awards to students in need with preference to those pursuing studies in nursing, pre-medical or pre-dentistry studies. Special consideration should be given to students who have demonstrated leadership and promise in their academic and career goals.
Helen S. Breidegam RN Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by DeLight Breidegam in honor of Helen Breidegam, the purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to ΢ÃÜÆƽâ students with first preference being given to those students who seek a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing.
Jack R. Ridge Science Scholarship Fund at Moravian
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to Moravian students with a major in the natural sciences or mathematics, with first preference given to students majoring in Physics. Students who have not yet declared a major, but who are pursuing a course of study with the intent of a major in these fields are also eligible for the scholarship. Additionally, students pursuing related interdisciplinary degrees or double majors are eligible.
Jacob & Katrina Templeton Millen Annual Giving Scholarship
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support for a deserving student majoring in Health Sciences with a preference for Nursing.
Jan Gollins Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide annual financial support for a deserving ΢ÃÜÆƽâ student who demonstrates interest in the fields of economics or music.
Jean Cosgrove Adams ’42 Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in memory of Jean Cosgrove Adams ’42, the purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships to deserving students with documented financial need attending ΢ÃÜÆƽâ with a preference given to those students intending to pursue the Bachelor of Music in Performance (vocal).
Jeannette Saums Ross ’44 Endowment Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support for worthy undergraduate students with a preference for music majors, including study abroad should a recipient choose to spend a term furthering his or her education at another institution.
John Grencer Memorial Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to students with primary consideration given to students majoring in Economics and Business Management.
John H. Reimers Music Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to Moravian music majors with preference given to juniors or seniors who have excelled in performance and academics.
Jonathan M. & Daniel G. Sidovar Memorial Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to deserving students with a preference given to History or Political Science majors.
Kohler-Howard Family Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a student who has declared his or her major in health services. In addition, preference will be given to a student who demonstrates active commitment to school, community or church and is a resident of Berks County.
Lester A. Miller Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a junior or senior student studying economics and business who realizes the importance and value of small businesses in our economy and is willing to take the risk of establishing such a business. Additional preference will be given to a student who is a U.S. military veteran, although this is not a required preference. The student must have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average to qualify for the scholarship. Should no student be identified that fully meets these criteria the scholarship should be awarded to a student who is most closely aligned with the purpose of the Fund.
Lillian Knowles Jones Vocal Performance Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide support to a deserving junior or senior voice major with a GPA of 3.0 or better. The student must be a member of the ΢ÃÜÆƽâ Choir and must continue to be a member of the choir during the period of time in which he or she is the recipient of the scholarship. They must be planning a career in vocal performance as a solo performer in church, operatic stage or Broadway, must perform a Junior or Senior recital.
Linda Cohen Cooper Memorial Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to deserving students of ΢ÃÜÆƽâ who major in a foreign language.
Louis & Esther Bader Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry
The purpose of the Fund is to provide an annual scholarship award to a ΢ÃÜÆƽâ junior or senior who is majoring in Chemistry and who, in the judgment of the Department of Chemistry, exhibits outstanding professional and academic qualifications in preparations for a career in science.
Louise Moore Pine Music Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid to a deserving Music student.
Marguerite K. Strohl Scholarship
Established in memory of Marguerite K. Strohl, the purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support for a worthy student majoring in Music.
Marvin C. Miles Scholarship Endowment Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support for a deserving student majoring in nursing or education.
Myrtle Virginia Mack Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to an undergraduate student at ΢ÃÜÆƽâ with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a junior or senior student who is studying in the pre-law program and whose focus is upon the poor and/or downtrodden (e.g. abused spouses, children, the elderly, etc.) and not on corporations or financial institutions. The student must have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average to qualify for the scholarship. Should no student be identified that fully meets these criteria the scholarship should be awarded to a student who is most closely aligned with the purpose of the Fund. If the scholarship does not go to a pre-law student, it can be awarded to a nursing student.
Nancy A. Taylor Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial aid for two deserving undergraduates beginning in their junior year and continuing in their senior year. One student will be a major in the fine arts (including music) and the other in the sciences.
Parry ’66 & Claire Miller Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to a student with need majoring in Nursing, Biochemistry or Neuroscience.
Patrick J. Malloy, III ’80 Memorial Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to a deserving undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a student majoring in Biology or Neuroscience with a solid academic achievement and continued involvement and leadership in University organizations and/or athletics.
Ralph M. Mittl Endowed Business Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to undergraduate students pursuing a business degree.
Regina-Weston Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the fund is to support a deserving music or psychology major, based on academic performance.
Rev. Douglas Caldwell Fund for Nursing Excellence Annual Scholarship
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support to assist with qualified post-secondary educational expenses of eligible students during their last semester of study in preparation for a career in nursing.
Rev. Richard & Jane Gilbert & Dr. Merrill & Roberta Joss Scholarship Fund at ΢ÃÜÆƽâ
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships for students attending ΢ÃÜÆƽâ with documented financial needs who demonstrate academic excellence. The scholarships shall be awarded to students with an interest in pre-medical/nursing or pre-ministerial studies. Pre-medical students will be encouraged to attend a medical school approved by the American Medical Association. Pre-ministerial students will be encouraged to attend a theological school approved by the University Senate of Theological Schools. The preferred awarding method is to alternate between pre-medical or nursing students and pre-ministerial students. Students should maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or the future equivalent.
Richard DiMotta ’98 Memorial Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to a student with a first preference for students who express an interest in a Criminology major, are working part-time and who have an outstanding academic record.
Robert C. and Diane L. May Scholarship Fund

Woodrin Grossman Family Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support in the form of at least two internships and one scholarship on an annual basis. The internships will be awarded at the discretion of the Executive Director of the Center for Career and Civic Engagement. The internships and one scholarship will go to undergraduate or graduate University students, with a preference for students who are: studying in the School of Economics and Business, with a preference to Accounting, studying in the health sciences, with a preference to Nursing. If these criteria cannot be met, the scholarship and internships should go to students with demonstrated need and good academic records.

The Fund supports undergraduate students. When the fund reaches $50,000, preference is given to students from outside Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York whose sibling, parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent graduated from ΢ÃÜÆƽâ. If these criteria cannot be met, the scholarship is awarded to students from outside these states.

The Fund provides scholarships of no less than $5,000 to full-time undergraduate women from the Bethlehem Area School District (BASD) or Catholic schools in the Diocese of Allentown. Awardees must have demonstrated financial need, a high academic standing (top 10% of class, SAT score of 1200 or ACT score of 25), and strong leadership skills.
