Australian Voices Choir to Perform at Moravian College

Bethlehem, Pa., September 18, 2015 – The Australian Voices under the direction of internationally celebrated conductor Gordon Hamilton will perform a recital at Moravian College on Tuesday, September 29 at 6 p.m.in Foy Hall. Before their performance, the choir will conduct a workshop with the college’s own chamber vocal group Vocalis. Admission to both events is free and the public is welcome.

Comprised of young singers from across Australia, the gold-medal winning choir seeks performs the music of and brings international attention to Australian composers. The choir blends and performs vocal traditions thousands of years old with new music that showcases the vibrancy and energy of Australia and its people. Such efforts have earned the group numerous national and international awards, including multiple gold medals at the 2006 World Choir Games in China and an award for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Music in a Regional Area at the 2008 Australian Classical Music Awards.

Their unique talent has also garnered The Australian Voices several viral hits on YouTube. Their performance of “,” a musical rendition off of a popular Buzzfeed article, currently has more than 1.3 million views on the video sharing site.

Besides winning a number of international awards since its formation in 1993, the choir has also toured globally several times, has been under the direction of three distinguished composers, and has performed on stage with some of the most popular musicians in the world.

Gordon Hamilton

Hamilton, who will conduct the group during its Moravian performance, was a member of the choir from 2000 until 2004. He later went on to receive several awards for his compositions, including the Coral Gables Congregational Church Florida 2006 Composition Prize for his string composition “Reggaeton.” In 2009, Hamilton returned to The Australian Voices as its new conductor and artistic director.
